PostSubject: A server Rebirth? A new beginning   Fri May 24, 2013 7:29 am

Cant help but notice the decline in population lately when i get home from work. Also was thinking about all the new content added (classes/mobs/items/crafting/class changes). AND also how the server has had the same character database for almost 2 yrs. This all got me thinking of how the server would benefit from a rebirth. Start fresh on a pre-announced date/time. So everyone can start at a new standard, where the server is now more ''complete'' than way back when. Numerous examples of how this would help, one being the stray people who started here in the past may have encountered one of the ''new'' classes before a balance and might have been discouraged to keep playing (ie been ganked or farmed or fed up with something being OP). Obviously the veteran players will be put off by this, until they realize no matter what happens to the server, they will still play, because its a good server. Then the fears will be gone when they discover all the new pvp opportunities available.

As a precaution, you could save the player database and start a new one for lets say a week or 2, see how it goes. If it doesnt work then simply revert back to the previous DB. No harm no foul. Worst case is we discover a way to get more people onto the server for a longer amount of time.

Just my 2 cents. Worth a thought.

I agree on a wipe, after they complete/balance most of the classes or in a week, whichever comes first. If you wait too long you will lose some regulars (I'm pretty burnt out on the server) but if you do ti without making some changes you will have the same problems again. Going forward, I would say increase the drop rate of items on player kills, add more of the yellow mobs for blood stones around cots with lower agg radius, reduce xp rate, increase rp/bp rate. right now its a 20 min PL to 50 in AC, then barely any PvP, just 3 or 4 of whatever class is at the top of the pyramid for the day. It's too easy to lvl a new class. Since most people are sub RR5 they can roll the new op class, get to 50, cl 10, geared, and rr2 in an hour and be rolling down people. thats why i say lower xp and raise rps, incentivize staying with one class, this will keep the op classes from being exploited so frequently.

just my 2 cents

I'm happy with the xp rate but a wipe would be helpful for newer players, also the players who somehow managed to become untouchable in melee will be back to killable like the rest of us lol

Well the problem here is. Im kinda busy irl. I do try to do some quick fixes etc.

But i dont really have much time to balance everything and startup fresh with everything working perfectly. Wish i did but i gotta go to work every day and im tired when i get home and are not always in the mood to work on daoc stuff. And the weekends is spent on my gf and family/friends.

So its pretty much up to how much work Infuenza got time to do. And he probably has a life too

server doesnt have to be perfect for a wipe and restart, as it sits now, its 10x better than it was when the server first came out.

Id also have to agree on the xp rate being lowered a bit and rp/bp rate getting increased. This will motivate people to pvp more, less people will get bored of nobody to kill after 50.

I don't think the xp rate needs to be lowered. if somebody wants to grind to 50 slowly they play Uthgard. If you drop the rate you might drop the population more, people don't have the time to level up. I say just increase the RP rate... a tiny bit.

tanis, that doesn't fix the problem of people PLnig a flavor of the day toon just to exploit its current oversights/bugs. you dont think a person should invest ATLEAST 1 to 2 days in a character before they are able to compete in end-game material? 30 minutes and im fully geared and ready for rvr. the elephant in the room is the rvr. people keep rerolling because everyclass has been buffed and nerfed. so people are just rolling with the nerf tide instead of sticking with a class. if the server was restarted no a level playing field and the xp lowered/rp raised, the rvr would be of better quality, the gameplay would be more balanced, the quality of PLAYERS would be better (if you ever play an i50 server you know what im talking about). I think there is a good balance between uthgard and i50, and i think that is taking a person 4 days to lvl up solo, or grouped and rolling 2 days, or a solide 12 hours of rush power lvling. people would gear once or twice then be in for rvr.

I'm saying don't drop the xp rate to take long, I think it should be balanced but Don't lower the xp rate too too much, if you want the players to stop playing OP classes you can't make a class playable so quick, gotta test it more. And I have played i50 servers. But DO NOT kill the xp rate, make it maybe half of what it is, its more reasonable than taking days to hit 50.

It is a challenge to get things balanced because its true i DO have a life:) lol but we are slowly working towards our goals and i do agree a wipe would be helpful.. when classes are a bit more balanced.. and i believe the first step is to add a full array of spells so you dont get all your spells instantly at 50

I don't think the server needs a single wip or anything.

This server has a low pop due to a few things:

1. Lots of classes are way to overpowered or unbalanced, making some classes TOTALLY useless, while new classes are created, have better and more skills than the older ones.

2. Doing bosses/farming takes way too long time, I'm talking with experience, I know that in every freeshards, a LOT of people hate to PvE 24/7 to find some items and still get owned by people with 100% full stuff with procs. People like when things are 'easy' and 'fast' ( Look at Live servers, before, you needed like 1 week to get ML1-10.. Now.. it takes a few BPs )

3. People DO NOT KNOW what they are playing, when I'm On, I'm helping a lot of people asking me ' What is a good class to start with ' -'What is that?' -'How is this?' '-Is this fun? How do we play it?' and so on. The ' Custom Classes ' thread isn't updated. T
There should be a NPC, or a new thread on the forum, clearly explaining what are the classes, and we could also make a quick guide to help any ' newbie people ' to correctly start the server.

As I've been playing almost every class ( besides the Dream Weaver ) I can surely help and give a lot of informations about the classes details, what they should start with and how.

Anyway, other things should be fixed, for example, the 3 new bosses in Cotswold, everyone thinks it's totally stupid to keep them. In 1 day, they kill more people than any of us. If by mistake anyone aggro them, and anyone hit the person getting hit, we can just /rel...
